Taming the Wild Elephant Mind Workshop

Taming the Wild Elephant Mind Workshop

9:30am to 1:00pm
Saturday, September 29th

Our mind can be like a wild elephant--powerful, but out of control. When we get riled up through anger, craving or negative states of mind, it becomes difficult to do what is right or healthy for us.

By taming the wild disturbances of our mind, we will

  • Always be happy
  • Be kind to others
  • Have a clear mind
  • Be free from stress, worry, and anxiety
  • Become a patient and accepting person
  • Become more compassionate.

In this workshop, Gen Rinzin will explain how, through mindfulness and alertness, we can tame our own mind.

“WITH ALL MY EFFORT I SHOULD REGULARLY CHECK
THAT THE UNSUBDUED ELEPHANT OF MY MIND
HAS NOT BROKEN FREE,
BUT REMAINS BOUND TO THE GREAT PILLAR OF THINKING ABOUT DHARMA.”
– SHANTIDEVA, GUIDE TO THE BODHISATTVA’S WAY OF LIFE

The Supreme Good Heart

9:30 am to 1:00 pm
Saturday, October 27

How do we find that quiet place within, that peace, and simple satisfaction we long for in our hearts? And if we find it, is it possible for such an experience to survive the tumult of our busy lives?

The ‘Supreme Good Heart’ is an extraordinary state of mind based on a clear recognition of our potential and our joyful compassion for others. When we develop it, we will have the peace we seek. Bodhichitta, the Sanskrit word for this mind, is said to be the source of peace and happiness for all living beings. And the good news is, we can cause it to arise in our hearts quickly. Gen Rinzin will explain how we can develop this good heart--bringing peace to our self and benefit to our world.
